Meet "Keeper of the Canopy" — an original painting celebrating one of the rainforest's most iconic guardians.
Perched quietly amongst lush tropical foliage, the scarlet macaw watches over the vibrant world around it. More than a beautiful bird, the macaw plays an essential role in maintaining the delicate balance of the rainforest. By dispersing seeds across vast distances, it helps new life take root, earning its place as one of nature's quiet custodians.
This painting was inspired by the incredible richness of tropical ecosystems and the dazzling colours found beneath the forest canopy. I wanted to capture not only the macaw's striking beauty, but also its quiet strength and the important role it plays in sustaining one of the world's most diverse habitats.
One of the reasons "Keeper of the Canopy" will always be one of my most treasured paintings is that it was my very first oil painting. It marked the beginning of a new chapter in my artistic journey. As each layer came to life, I found myself completely captivated by the richness, depth and versatility of oil paint. By the time I finished this piece, I knew I had found the medium I wanted to work in for years to come. It wasn't just the completion of a painting—it was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with oils and the start of the artistic path I continue to follow today.
Built with expressive brushwork and layers of luminous colour, the painting combines bold reds, radiant yellows and vibrant blues against cool rainforest greens and deep turquoise tones.
